Formed in St.Petersburg, Russia in 1988 this Early Music Group has performed their first series of concerts in Catherin Palace of Tsar's Village and it became very simbolic - just the shape of Baroque St.Petersburg with the greatest force embodied in this architectural ensemble became the determining factor in the aesthetic conception for this musicians and their repertoire.

By uniting at the end of 80'th most prominent Russian musicians, wich specialized in historical performance of the 17-18 centuries music, the ensemble at once has defined in person: Russian music of the 18 century, wich members of the group finded in St.Petersburg's archives, received a new life at the concerts of Musica Antiqua Russica and has become a basis of repertoire. Also, during consequent years, ensemble perform a numbers of Western-European programs from Early 17 century Italian Baroque up to sacred music by Arvo Part. For musicologists and general audience was unforgettable cycle of concerts in 1994 with all published and some unpublished music from Kromeritz archive by Henrich Biber. Music by Henry Pucell was performed by Musica Antiqua Russica in 1995 in St.Petersburg's Big Phiharmonic Hall.


Early Music Ensemble

Concert tours takes ensemble all over the world, including such exotic parts as Africa and Siberia. The group has successfuly participated in Early Music Festivals in Moscow and St.Petersburg (Russia), Minsk (Belarussia), Riga (Latvia), Vilnius (Litvenia), Madrid, Melilla, Valliadolid, Valencia (Spain), Brezice (Slovenia), Regensburg (Germany), and Russian Music Festivals in Manchester (UK), Enschede (Netherland), Kalamazoo, MI (USA) and others. In Belgium (Gent, Brugge, Hasselt) ensemble perform a series of concerts with famous vocal group EX TEMPORE. In 1995 Musica Antiqua Russica has performed for Queen Elizabeth during Her visit in St.Petersburg.

Performances and CD recordings of Musica Antiqua Russica has been critical acclaimed by St.Petersburg Times, Suddeutsche Zeitung, Early Music Review and others. The numbers of various programs prepered by ensemble allow to choose for concert a special atmosphere for different venue.
Musicians plays the original instruments of 17-18 centuries, or their exact copies. This is baroque violins and bows, viola da gamba, baroque violoncello and harpsichord.
